I hope when I get news like this, that I would have the option to do what this brave woman has
planned.
She is so young, not like this old timer. I want to be able to make my own plans. Do I have the right? I hope so.

(33,021 posts)Amazing woman, remarkable family.
Edited to add...when I wrote my will in 2004, & all the powers of attorney and I made a very clear choice to be a no code if there was no brain activity on the appropriate medical tests. I have told all of my health care providers, given them copies for my charts, told my siblings and had a hard conversation with my mother(80yrs old) about this. I am very clear that this is my wish.

(1,850 posts)is a far different situation than this young lady is in. As a cancer survivor, I can understand where she was coming form, but I also remember the words of a very compassionate person I knew when I broached the subject after my diagnosis nearly 30 years ago, "Sometimes the last gift you can give your loved ones is to continue to live until they are ready." Makes sense. Thank goodness I never faced that choice.

(33,021 posts)glioblastoma is ugly. I can only faintly imagine the conversations she and her husband had, let alone with her parents.
I wish her family and friends hearts ease.

It also requires you're asking the physician about their values... if they differ from yours, you might not get your wishes honored.

(33,021 posts)and specific. I had surgeries in 2008 & 2010, and the specifics were discussed then, as well. I loathed what happened to Terry Schiavo. I wanted protection, legal protection, from that hell.

(2,101 posts)A girlfriend I had always told me that if she found out she had cancer that she would commit suicide. I didn't believe she meant it. She didn't tell anyone else, including her family. As if her suicide was not devastating enough, I soon learned that telling others of it was a mistake.
I feel there is too much room for misuse of a program like this, and that misuse would cause much suffering.

She couldn't eat, tubes and stuff every day.
She was to go for a check-up and her friend asked what she hoped for from the physician.
"I want to go, fast."
If she had the opportunity, she would have chosen assisted suicide. Unfortunately, Jesus and the New Jersey legislature wouldn't allow that. So she suffered for three weeks until the end.
My response is, .... Jesus and fuck the feckless New Jersey legislature.
