(31,997 posts)that decision was already made before today so they didn't have to move decorations as most places wouldn't let them start until today anyway.
The play's were cancelled. Even our church cancelled it's saturday services.

I HATE these storms. My father used to take us out in the flint hills to watch these storms. I think he scared me for life. He was fascinated by tornadoes and lightening storms.

(32,609 posts)the towns show up better. The activity has moved toward the northeast I see.
Are you from Emporia?

(46,436 posts)Is that in the northern part of the state? It seems like we used to drive through there on our way to Ohio from Colorado when I was a kid. I hope no lives are lost.

(96,793 posts)I-70 runs through it. So if you drove across Kansas, you were in Salina.

(46,436 posts)Does US Highway 24 ring a bell? Mostly what I remember of Kansas is traveling through there at night, sleeping in the back seat of the car (because we didn't have to wear seatbelts back then). I guess Kansas has its own beauty but to a 10-year-old Colorado girl, it looked pretty boring.

(96,793 posts)They always build interstates in the most boring part of a state. Parts of Kansas are absolutely gorgeous.

(1,366 posts)Spent a lot of summers in the 50's and 60's in a little town in the center of Kansas called Claflin. Nothing to do but go to the drugstore and look through the comics. We would get what was called a "suicide" at the soda fountain for a nickel. It was all the sodas and add-ons mixed together. Quite a treat.
