An Alabama mother is furious that her 5-year-old daughter was forced to sign a school contract stating she wouldnt kill herself or anyone else at school.
School officials told Rebecca, who did not want to give her last name, they had to send 5-year-old Elizabeth home after an incident in class.
They told me she drew something that resembled a gun. According to them she pointed a crayon at another student and said pew pew, Rebecca explained.
Rebecca says her daughter was then given a questionnaire to evaluate her for suicidal thoughts and given a Mobile County Public School safety contract to sign stating she wouldnt kill herself or others.

(15,383 posts)That saying, "Pew-pew," indicates you're shooting a lasergun, which can be set to stun.

(56,177 posts)It could be true, but she could be like that mother who said the school said her son sexually harassed another 5-year-old, when the school never said any such thing...schools can be stupid, parents can lie...I'd like to see a more complete article about this.

Now, I'm as opposed to guns as anyone can be and not walk around foaming at the mouth all the time about them. I never bought my sons toy guns when they were growing up. That's how much of a nutcase on the topic I am.
However, it's possible they played with toy guns at friends' houses -- I'd have to ask them. I didn't try that hard to monitor what they did outside the home. But playing with toy guns isn't the end of the world, and drawing a gun or making the gun shape with your hand and some sort of shooting noise is NOT evidence the kid wants to shoot anyone. Sheesh.
