Lake County animal services director fired after 20 pets euthanized in one day

The new director of the Lake County animal services unit was fired Friday after administrators found 20 pets were euthanized in one day.

Jacquelyn Johnston was hired by the sheriff's office as the head of animal services on Oct. 1, said Sgt. James Vachon, a sheriff's office spokesman.

On Thursday, 18 dogs and two cats were put down, Vachon said.

"To be fair some were indeed sick or injured but certainly not all," Vachon said.

She was hired Oct 1 and fired 9 days later. She looks very young to me. Here is Malraiders Oct 2014 #1

She may have been between a rock and a hard place. There may not
have been enough money in the budget to adequately feed and care
for as many animals as she had. She may have made a hard decision
to make an early disposal of some animals who were not likely to be
adopted so that the others could be fed or given required medicine.

I would have contacted private organizations to see if they could help with the adoptions. Then it wouldn't have been so hard to euthanize those that were unadoptable.
