They'd all be dead.
I would have a smidgen of confidence in the man if he would quit saying there's nothing wrong with his goddamn protocols. Fact is they don't know WHAT went wrong, but it's obvious to anyone with a brain cell that the protocols need to be revisited and either changed or SHORED UP. Are they doing that? Fine...then say so!
When someone evidently does something so minor to get infected and has no idea how it happened, then Houston, we have a problem. Either something isn't clear or deficient. FIX IT.
Typical stupid governement bureaucrat covering his ass.

(10,745 posts)Unfortunately, as much as I hate to say this, it's kinda obvious that the nurse here in D/FW *had* to have slipped up somewhere. This disease isn't like the flu; you *have* to be in direct contact with contaminants.

(10,745 posts)But don't you think that there would have been far more workers infected, if that really was the case, instead of just this one other person?
Again, I don't think it hurts to take every precaution possible, but I do believe Occam's Razor applies quite well here.

In this case, they probably need to have supervision while taking off the protective garments, as they do in the special centers in Nebraska and Atlanta.

(18,115 posts)Because a set of protocals written by the CDC who is using certain assumptions in writing them couldn't possibly contain the slightest flaw.
They are written in stone, precise and can be taken as gospel.
BTW, have you seen them? In detail?

(44,974 posts)If the protocols were working (as CDC claims) why are they revising them?
pnwmom
(108,995 posts)For instance, they might need to add to the protocol a stipulation that staff members be supervised while they're removing their protective garments, as they are in Nebraska and Atlanta.

(50,473 posts)the 'hair on fire' people some seem to think would do better. To quote a line from the movie and, quite possibly actually said by Gene Krantz:
"Let's work the problem, people. Let's not make things any worse by guessing."
The director of the CDC is doing exactly that, working the problem.
Absolutely

(108,995 posts)their protocols are perfect.
And yet they are revising these perfect protocols. I wonder why.

An abundance of caution, no doubt. Although, that's certainly not a bad thing, in my opinion, especially given how many failures have happened in those three certain West African countries so far.

(10,745 posts)Because this hasn't happened anywhere else in the U.S. yet, and we've had a few others in other areas of the country.....only here in Dallas, have there been any problems.
