This is what Stand Your Ground allows murderers to get away with in FL

http://www.pressherald.com/news/Stand-Your-Ground-gives-Zimmerman-extra-chances-in-legal-fight.html

<snip>

Last month, a Miami-Dade County judge ruled that Greyston Garcia was immune under the law even though he chased down a suspected car stereo thief and stabbed him to death, then went home and went to sleep. The judge ruled Garcia used justifiable force because the thief swung a bag of radios at him that could "lead to serious bodily injury or death." Prosecutors are appealing.

In Tampa last year, investigators decided not to file charges against 62-year-old Alcisviados Polanco, who used an ice pick to fatally stab 20-year-old Wathson Adelson following a road rage confrontation. Authorities said there was no evidence to disprove Polanco's claim of self-defense.

Two years ago in Miami, a pair of Florida Power & Light workers were accosted by a mobile home resident armed with a rifle. The resident, Ernesto Che Vino, struck one utility worker on the head and fired shots in the air as they fled to their vehicle. A judge ruled that Vino's actions were justified because he was in fear for his life.

Numbers compiled by the FBI suggest many states saw modest or even sharp increases in the number of homicides by private citizens that were classified as justifiable after enacting a "stand your ground" law or amending existing self-defense laws.

with killing his wife, after taking out a large insurance policy on her, and uses the SYG law to get away with it. It wouldn't take a genius to set up the perfect crime under a law that only uses the testimony of the one that lives into account.

From what I have heard just here on DU is that this SYG has been successful for drug dealers already....I've heard how justifiable homicide has increased 50% where SYG laws are present.

I shiver to think how many lives will be lost before we can shut this law down.

I believe this is an excellent idea....need to advertise the idea in Europe and Asia as the republicans won't comply thus diminishing the effectiveness of a boycott.

Even cancelled a plan to visit Tampa/Orlando back in '05.

Prick Scott and the rest of the Republicans needs to be admitted to the nearest sanitorium with further orders NOT to ever release them to society again.

My summary of how many people will be murdered with no penalty for the murderer is "Dead men tell no tales".

Who knows how far it will go? "Officer, I was walking by that guy's house & he looked out the window at me and I could swear I saw him raising a gun to shoot me, so of course I had to shoot him first!"

It's time to disband ALEC and remove all ALEC-related laws from our books.

SYG is among ALEC's dumbest ideas....

(And remove the Republicans that kiss ALEC's asses and have the ALEC executives arrested and sentenced to life in prison without parole)
