Honestly, help me out: What have George Soros and Saul Alinsky done?

Do you know? I keep getting this shit thrown at me by righties. "Yeah, but George Soros!..." "Palling around with Saul Alinsky!"

WTF? I can name dozens of things the Koch's have done/are doing. But god forbid I ever mention it, because Soros and Alinsky are immediately thrown in my face. But, for the life of me, I don't know what their transgressions were or why they matter. I've never seen Soros start a "Tea Party." I've never seen him speak. I couldn't tell you what he looks like. Sure, he was convicted of irregularities regarding currency speculation in France in 2005, but what else has he done? Does he fund the Democratic Party? If so, he is absolutely SHITTY at it.

As for Saul Alinsky, again...WTF? I do remember some old hippie radicals when I was a kid. But I've never read a word written by the guy, if he indeed wrote anything, and I don't know why I'm supposed to be concerned about what some has-been radical said decades ago.

Yet, I can tell you right away what the Koch's have done and are doing.

So please, someone fill me in. Why are the righties so obsessed with people that this hard-core leftie barely knows anything about, yet their views are supposed to be what informs my views?

and George Soros has a shitpile of money he's not giving to the Republicans like a good little plutocrat.

That's about it. It doesn't take much these days, they just use names as shortcuts for "commie lefty Nazi liberals."

and a pretty effective one at that.
He, along with Frances Fox Piven, are oft demonized by the Riech Wingers.
Back in the early 70's, when I was in college, and a community organizer, a lot of their material was being used.

- he can bring down the currency value of a country or prop it up. Central Banks follow his investing patterns closely. He was blamed for the bandwagon effect when he made a big hedge move on British Pound that created a mini-recession back in the 1980's. He didn't like Thatcher at all, nor had much use for Major...
Most of the time, he re-invests his money into progressive or economically sound businesses or activities, and has been known to give developing nations a bit of a nudge in the currency markets if they needed infrastructure improvements.

Most of the .05% wish they were as respected or had as large an impact on the world economy as George Soros could.
He doesn't live like a God above the plebes, raking it in, because he wants a world left for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And that's why "they" - the hereditary "leaders of industry", the wastrels and "gentleman's C" legacy grads who run think tanks to vacuum money their way - hate him with a white - hot passion. They're playing a zero-sum "king of the mountain" game, creating their own reality, while Soros lives in the real world with real people that he knows are affected by the way he invests.

As for Alinsky - his sin was that his passion was for justice "...those nasty, dirty little people". Nothing in his previous actions or tactics had been commented on had he used his intellect and powers for the 1%.
