http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/10/parent-upset-teacher-not-fired-for-attacking-evolution-comparing-public-schools-to-nazi-death-camps/Krista Bennett, a parent of a senior at Fuquay-Varina High School, told the News & Observer that shes disappointed with the Wake County Public School Systems decision not to fire Ray Fournier over an article he published in a home-schooling magazine.
In the article, Fournier wrote that the public school system was like a concentration camp dedicated to the spiritual death of those imprisoned behind these walls. The biology teacher also complained about the teaching of evolution, claiming it discredited the reliability of the Bible and got rid of God as Creator, and he said public education could turn straight kids into gay kids.
The district announced Friday that Fournier would be suspended for five days without pay.
The Wake County Public School System recognizes and respects the First Amendment rights of its employees to free speech in their private lives to the extent the exercise of these rights is not disruptive to students, staff, or the school environment, a spokesman for the school system said in a statement.
In reviewing concerns regarding statements made by (Fournier), Mr. Fournier acknowledges that he exceeded his rights by making disruptive statements in materials he wrote and published, and has issued an apology for those statements.

(1,210 posts)3005 CODE OF ETHICS AND STANDARDS OF CONDUCT
All school system employees hold positions of public trust; they are responsible for the education of students and also serve as examples and role models to students. Each employee is responsible for both the integrity and the consequences of his or her own actions. The highest standards of honesty, integrity, and fairness must be exhibited by each employee when engaging in any activity concerning the school system, particularly in relationships with vendors, suppliers, students, parents, the public, and other employees. Employee conduct should be such as to protect both the person's integrity and/or reputation and that of the school system. An unswerving commitment to honorable behavior by each and every employee is expected. Integrity can accommodate the inadvertent error and the honest difference of opinion; it cannot accommodate deceit or subordination of principle.
Employees shall perform their jobs in a competent and ethical manner without violating either the public trust or applicable law, policies, and regulations. It is not practical or possible to enumerate all of the situations that might fall under the guidelines of this policy. In addition to other policies, regulations, and approved practices that have been established covering specific areas of activity, (such as purchasing), the absence of a law, policy, or regulation covering a particular situation does not relieve an employee from the responsibility to exercise the highest ethical standards at all times.
Failure to comply with this policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
The Superintendent has developed in Regulations and Procedures (R&P 2305/3005/4005) guidelines which address the specifics related to this policy.

(21,506 posts)I didn't read the article linked so it may be he actually did use the word Nazi but it seems strange that the quote in this snippet doesn't include it.
Guy is a tool to be sure but I am really starting to be annoyed by sensationalist reporting that puts words in peoples mouths.

(13,081 posts)He might have been talking about any concentration camp, not just Nazi concentration camps.
Sheesh.
On edit: It is the Telegraph, so there's a 50% chance the whole story is made up. At least it's not The Daily Mail.

(21,506 posts)prisons? Concentration camp and prison are pretty close in my mind.
Regardless I agree with the sentiment that many of our schools are working hard at crushing students spirit.
His ideas on creationism however I couldn't find any more ridiculous.
