You cannot convince a Republican

That Republicans want to end Social Security and Medicare if they are currently enjoying the benefits of it. Republicans say it outright, and they do not believe. There is that horrible fear that they have, that somehow, somewhere somebody might be not suffering enough. It freaking stuns me that I can bring up Romney's dog on the roof and that is somehow the same thing as the Secret Service going apeshit in Colombia.

A person is DIRECTLY responsible for putting his dog on the roof. That's great. Because Secret Service members in Colombia two days before Obama even got there, visited prostitutes.

I do not understand Republicans and why anyone would support such a bunch of idiots.

They are called their base. Intelligence not only not required, but demonized.

Secret Service Agents are not necessarily all Democrats. Republicans are so dumb. I can just hear one saying this like he thinks he has discovered some great "gotcha!"

It was a huge comeback because this individual had not heard the dog on the roof story. Suddenly, dog on the roof put there by a person's selfishness = security team acting reckless.

I was figuratively, fighting an unarmed opponent, but they are trying their best to get mileage out of the Secret Service acting up.

I just had a rather terse "discussion" with a friend that's turning toward the right. Unread and other that watching 10 minutes of talking heads a day, Ignorant as hell. He was railing about how Obama is going to take away SS and medicare and I asked if he was paying attention at all. I calmly but firmly stated that it was him during the budget battle that was trying to keep SS off the table, and that every single Republican in the primaries favored cut/alter both programs to shrink government over the phony deficit hysteria. He then agreed ( reluctantly ) then shot angrily back "Well Obama's going to take away everybody's guns, you just watch!"

WTF??

7. For several reasons

One because Republicans are better at messaging than that, and two because they simply have more money and more media outlets to spread their messages. Hey, I ran for office trying to get a message out that Reaganomics has failed. Except that for every person in my district who read my website there are thousands who watch Fox News or listen to Limbaugh or read George Will and Cal Thomas or watch CBS News and either get a different message or are kept clueless and distracted.

About social security. First, Republicans almost never say they will end it for people over 55. It has been true for decades - both parties are afraid of AARP. So Republicans are not going to end it for people "currently enjoying the benefits of it". As for younger people, well Republicans have also spent decades spreading a couple of messages - messages which are now widely believed. First, that social security (and medicare) are going to go broke. Second, that because of the first "fact" that most people under 55 are never going to get any benefits anyway. Third, the Trust Fund is just "worthless pieces of paper", (unlike, say, that piece of paper that says you have $50 in your checking account, or the piece of paper that says you owe a mortgage.)

Having laid that groudwork for decades through their own RWNM as well as the M$M, most of which they control, well it becomes easy enough to fool a majority of people, especially if you can get them stirred up about abortion too.

9. New Deal

Republicans have been against the New Deal since the inception of the New Deal. It's an ideological pillar with them. When people that ARE Republicans don't even realize that, it's kind of like explaining bicycling to a fish and why it is fun for humans.

I have GOT to quit even trying.

So long as workers are paying hundreds of billions into it every year, they still don't believe you. Even when you tell them that benefits may be about 25% less, but it will not go broke, they still are not convinced...
