Okay, okay, Peter Thiel is a libertarian dipstick. But he may have a point here.

Thiel made a number of thought-provoking statements during the promotional conference of his book, Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future. In his book, Thiel suggests that people without an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often walk out on ideas, that might at first seem strange, which becomes their weakness. Thiel perceives that successful ideas are often the unconventional, strange ones.
The PayPal co-founder also emphasized that the workers with Aspergers are often behind the most successful companies as they are not intimidated by the off-beat ideas that they often come up with.
In Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future, Thiel also argued that competitiveness hinders ones chance to come up with unique and unparalleled ideas, as competition pressures every competitor to come up with an idea thats almost entirely the same in concept as their rivals.
Hopefully this meme will catch on, and I can finally have a life!

(9,527 posts)It's like a company I worked for who laid off a bunch of people at the recommendation of an outside consulting group. I noticed that the people being laid off wore clothes that were a lot less expensive than the suits worn by the consulting group.
MBAs are great for middle management stuff, but not at getting anything done.

(10,007 posts)(e.g. the MBA) and those Masters programs that require original research.
I'm not a big fan of the former myself. Part of earning an advanced degree is demonstrating the ability to make original contributions to one's field. Course based graduate degrees are just hoops to jump through.

(22,000 posts)Personally I have no problem with his (or anyone else's) support of autism. It is a very worthy cause to support.
But really does he have to slam one group of people to do it? Is that really worthy of being posted on DU (inspite of the OP's open recognition that he is a libertarian)?
What am I?
I am a teacher
I am an academic
Yes, I am MBA
I am a doctoral candidate
and I have a learning disability
Frankly, I am sick of people on DU who deride those who choose to get an education.

(78,249 posts)I, just like Bush*, have a Yale undergraduate degree. But far from being Pretzeldent, I'm stuck in a cube in a nonprofit pulling down south of $40K in the off-the-charts Bay Area.

(22,000 posts)He also comes from a very privileged family. Something most of us don't have.
Again, my point is you are supporting the statement of a libertarian asshole for his comments about those with MBA's.
