How do you think will the rise of social media, such as Facebook, impact the 2012 election?

Obviously, social media was around in 2008. However, it has grown tremendously and it has been embraced by a larger cross section of society.

I receive regular updates from the Obama campaign, but I only just stumbled on the Nebraska Obama for America page.

Do you think Obama 2012 is using Facebook and other social media effectively?

What about downline campaigns for the House and Senate?

What about the DNC, DCCC, DSCC? What about progressive causes like MoveOn?

I don't think it changes anybody's minds. Corporate America seems to think that like a lemming, I will buy whatever crap they convince my friends to buy, as long as they "friend" that manufacturer. I don't let anybody influence my decisions, unless I first decide to ask them about a purchase that they might have made.

Social media might have been a novelty a several years ago, but now it's just part of the blather that thinking people have already decided to block out as they work their way towards the information they're really seeking out.

OTOH, I see a ton of RW talking points circulated in things we've all seen before like:

"Repost if you agree that Jesus is Lord and taking prayer out of school was the worst thing to happen to America."

"Everyone on welfare should be drug tested! Who's with me? I bet none of you will have the guts to repost this"

I could go on, but I won't.
