(8,303 posts)That is why CDC guidelines for suspected cases in hospitals call for separate rooms and a separate bathroom.
I mean, if your first ER case comes into the waiting room and while waiting for the triage nurse, runs off with diarrhea to the public bathroom, you have an immediate potential transmission emergency. By the time the gastro symptoms strike, there is going to be virus in fecal matter and flushing a toilet creates an aerosol.
If they are co-infected with EV D68 and Ebola, they're gonna be spraying the virus around. And if the person comes in and doesn't speak English or is not in shape to answer questions, you are not going to quickly realize the type of precautions you need to use. We can't ever take transmission risks to zero - we can merely reduce them sharply.
