Texas health worker, cruise ship traveler tests negative for Ebola

Texas health worker, cruise ship traveler tests negative for Ebola

A Dallas hospital lab worker who spent much of a cruise holiday in isolation after possible exposure to Ebola has tested negative for the disease, and in Texas some of the dozens of people still being monitored were expected to be cleared on Sunday and Monday.

The Carnival Magic docked in the port of Galveston, Texas after a week-long cruise that included being denied docking by Belize and Mexico because of the presence of the woman on board.

The precautions taken over the Texas lab worker reflected anxiety over the spread of Ebola.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf urged stronger international action to bring the epidemic under control on Sunday, saying the disease is unleashing an economic catastrophe that will leave a "lost generation" of young West Africans.

from the talking heads on the TeeVee which is droning in the background. I can't be certain, but I thought I detected a note of disappointment in their voices with the squelching of another opportunity to spread panic.

The ridiculous over reaction to her being on the cruise ship was typical right wing media hype. Scare people enough and they vote republican. I hope this gets folks' attention that they are being manipulated by the news media. The woman never had a fever from what I heard on the TV this morning, so she was never at risk to spread the disease and self isolated herself just to be sure.

People need to inform themselves about Ebola, so they will not be manipulated into a panic. Ebola is a terrible disease. If we stopped electing Republicans who cut funding for the CDC and the NIH, then we would already have a vaccine for this disease and for many other diseases.

I am far more concerned about Hantavirus and Lyme Disease (http://www.cdc.gov/hantavirus/) than I am Ebola, since Hantavirus and Lyme Disease are native to the US and are carried by common rodents (Hantavirus) and deer ticks(Lyme Disease).

Of course, as a human being I have great concern and compassion for the residents of West Africa who are currently living with a horrific outbreak of Ebola. I want funding restored to the CDC and NIH immediately to work on a vaccine and effective treatments and prevention of Ebola, but I also want funding for research into diseases here in the US that are essentially being ignored thanks to the drastic funding cuts by the GOP.
