Glen Campbell sings his final song...

I wish you a safe and peaceful journey, Mr. Campbell. You have brought much joy to many people over the years.

"Legendary singer and songwriter Glen Campbell has been battling Alzheimer’s disease for years, and is now in the final stages of the disease. Campbell has been moved to 24-hour care, as his doctors have determined that he is in the sixth stage of Alzheimer’s (‘severe cognitive decline”).

It has been nearly two years since Campbell has performed in public — however, as a farewell to his music career, Campbell’s record label has released his final studio recording.

His final ballad is called “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.” The melody is somber and contemplative, but the lyrics show Campbell’s ability to find irony in his disease. The result is a beautiful combination of sadness and joy, which ends much too quickly."

My Dad used to play his records all the time. When I was little, Dad liked "Wichita Lineman."

I downloaded all of them. I think he re-released some real vintage ones.

I remember watching Glen perform Rhinestone Cowboy at the Grammy's a few years ago. It was bittersweet, because it was nice to see everyone giving him accolades, and he sounded good, but it was obvious even then that the disease was taking it's toll.

reading a review of his performance by the Indianapolis Star. Mr. Campbell was booked in a very fancy and new (and hugely expensive) venue, The Palladium, in Carmel (north of Indy). This was in 2011. The reviewer completely eviscerated him. Part of the reason I remember this review was because of how vicious it was. Needless to say, an announcement about his condition came out some time later. I've always wondered how that reviewer felt when that announcement was made. Some of you may be thinking, "The reviewer didn't know,". I get that, but this review went beyond just panning the performance.

I wish Mr. Campbell a peaceful release from this horrible disease.

It's always bothered me when the "Old Time" singers get a bad review. Along with age, singing voices change. One would think that a reviewer would take that into account.

On a side note, I wrote to one of the better known reporters who went after Sharon Osbourne for chewing gum in public. I explained to the nitwit that dry mouth was one of the major side effects of chemo, and that chewing gum helped alleviate that. Never heard back from her.

Glen was one of a handful of favorite singers of my mother.
She played his records constantly back in the early 70s.
I think he appeared on the Smothers Brothers tv program, and that was his introduction to America.
He even had his own tv program for awhile.
