How come the fear fear fear people are happy with weakening citizens' rights

after that awful killing of the soldier in Ottawa, but refused to ban assault rifles after over 20 little children and their teachers were slaughtered at Sandy Hook.

are in positions of power and see the weakening of citizens' rights as another way to hold onto that power. It might help to remind them that they have a much greater chance of being killed in a car accident than being attacked by a terrorist or contracting ebola.

On second thought, no it usually doesn't help.
