A former teacher at Pasadena High School has been charged with having an improper relationship with a student, according to court documents.
Ashley Zehnder resigned from the school on Oct. 9, officials with the Pasadena Independent School District said.
Zehnder, 24, began a sexual relationship with a male student in late May, at the end of the last school year, according to Harris County court documents.
According to the student, Zehnder was the assistant cheer coach at the school and he was a member of the school's competition cheer squad. He told officers with the district's police department that the relationship began when he lost his cellphone and used the teacher's phone to locate his. He saved Zehnder's phone numbers and they began texting.

I don't get it. Do people never learn? She sends a nude picture to a teenage boy, has sex with him, and doesn't think she's going to get caught?

(13,466 posts)She destroyed her life at 24 and took advantage of her authority with a student. Any chance at a happy life is over for her; totally stupid.

(5,842 posts)I have pretty big doubts that these encounters are motivated by some deep emotional connection that the teachers are seemingly unable to find within the 18+ adult community.

(12,778 posts)Why do teachers - male or female - think that having sex with students is somehow a better idea than just casual sex with consenting adults?

(6,819 posts)Yes, there seems to be a big increase in female teachers having sex with male high school students. As noted above, do they really think that the guy will keep it a secret?
There was a story earlier this week about a female substitute teacher having sex with a male high school student - in the classroom - on the first day of school.

(38,428 posts)We have a society of 310,000,000 in the U.S.A. Yes, there are bad teachers, stupid teachers, absurd teachers, and absurd stories about teachers. The same is true of police officers, doctors and lawyers. We need not talk about politicians ..So, If one looks far enough, you will find these kind of stories in a population of 310,000,000. This does not justify what happened, but if you look you will find. There are worse stories about the way parents treat their children in my opinion. And you can find them too. In the OP it says, "..Do people ever learn?" Some people do but some don't. Look far and wide, and you will find those that don't. We could say, "Don't the cops ever learn?"..or "Don't the politicians ever learn?"..Makes good news, but it won't stop.

(12,778 posts)These are sort of the "man bites dog" stories. They make news because they are not the norm. It just seems like we have been seeing a lot of them lately, probably because social media exposes them to more people and makes them more likely to get caught.
This story is the perfect example. What young adult woman sends a nude picture to a teenage boy and thinks he's not going to show his friends?

(365 posts)I don't understand wanting to do something like that in the first place, but more than that, I don't understand the lack of self-control. It seems like a lot of people jump from "wanting" to "doing" with no thought in between, no moral reasoning process, no consideration of the possible consequences. I just cannot imagine approaching life that way.

(12,778 posts)there was no facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. A lot of teachers got by with this sort of thing because there usually wasn't any evidence (unless someone got pregnant). Now, though, it seems that there are inevitably pictures involved, which almost always means that the perp is going to get caught.

She probably won't serve much jail time either.

(12,778 posts)For the most part you're right though. Some of the comments I've read on DU about similar cases are absolutely disgusting.
