The Post-Dispatch now has about as much credibiltiy left as Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson. That is, ZERO!
We should talk about the 'why'.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch owes the family of Michael Brown, the people of St. Louis and the people of this nation an abject apology for its utterly shoddy journalism. I will no longer read, nor will I cite, this publication or any of its work, barring a full retraction of the absurd quotes they ascribe to Dr. Melinek (and the concomitant character assassination they perform on Mike Brown).

Press and police, prosecutors and the entire system is despicable.
I am more surprised at the New York Times and the Washington Post. The Post didn't even speak to Melinek. Didn't take long for them to make Ben Bradlee turn in his grave.
They, the Post Dispatch, were called out 2 days ago now and have not tried to clarify, explain or apologize. These are lives they're messing with.

(7,908 posts)I feel honor-bound to note that the NYTimes did not, AFAIK, take part in this particular round of shoddy, yellow journalism and gross calumny of Mr. Brown.
The Times has its own checkered past of fabricated quotes and, indeed, fabricated stories entire, so I'm not holding it up as a paragon of journalistic excellence, merely noting that it is as far as I can tell innocent on this particular issue.
The WaPo is little more now than a CIA propaganda outlet and vanity object for Jeff Bezos. I know of very few who ascribe much credibility to the writers and editors who now put it out.

(31,849 posts)I had, without the benefit of Dr. Melinek's later commentary, the same problems with the media's reporting of the autopsy's findings.
The DoJ is correct ... there is an obvious attempt at shaping public opinion.

were significant enough to merit a separate thread.
If the P-D fabricated Melinek's quotes out of whole cloth, who knows what other shenanigans they're up to in this article and others? Maybe one of our St. Louisian regulars can weigh in at some point with the local perspective on the P-D. As of right now, though, I can no longer trust anything I read in it as anything other than ruling elite propaganda.

(31,828 posts)I'll rely on the people taking it to the streets as far as Ferguson MO goes.

(7,908 posts)think presents this issue in a much better way than my feeble late-night attempt last night. I've asked him if he thinks it's OK for me to delete this thread or to consolidate them (I have no idea whether that can be done or how).
Here's KPete's excellent thread on this same issue: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025708030
Hope everyone gets a chance to take a spin by KPete's thread.

(17,997 posts)I posted the Lawrence O'Donnell interview and was still told that the evidence put in the ST Louis Post Dispatch was correct.

(31,828 posts)As much as people pop off about the NSA, Authoritarianism, and a Bogey Man in Washington DC -
They can't see for one minute how an authority figure, two, three four in basically a small town in America could be capable of evil.
A lot of folks are losing credibility with me on that thread.
And at this point - GD/Admin needs to step in and lock it as the premise of the o.p. is creative speculation at best. Blatant lies and misinformation being spread at worst.
A person has been killed and all people care about is that fragile thread of 'justice being blind' that they still hold onto foolishly.

(17,997 posts)I don't know if I am allowed to say this, but I kinda think "troll" with some people on that thread.
This is the most important thing going on in this country and DU, less a few people, are ignoring it. I mean for christ's sake, Amnesty International has human rights violations inside the US for the first time in their history and crickets! A democratic governor is touting and backing racism and crickets! What the ever loving fuck?

(31,828 posts)That's pretty shameful - that we are under the A.I. looking class.
And pretty shameful that some folks care more about folks in Hong Kong than they do their own being trampled in a so-called 'free and equal rights society' right in their own back yard.
We deserve every ounce of derision thrown at us by rest of world right now.

(17,997 posts)About Amnesty International's findings. Notice the lack of attention to it.
Hard for the Wilson/cops supporters to dis it. Harder for the indifferent to rec it.
