TOMS RIVER Almost two years after superstorm Sandy, Gov. Chris Christie came to town Thursday to herald the milestone that more than $1 billion has been earmarked for housing recovery such as the Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Elevation and Mitigation program.
Toms River, one of the hardest hit municipalities in the Oct. 29, 2012 disaster, has more than 150 homes under construction through the RREM program, according to the governor's office.
But before Christie even stepped to the lectern in the firehouse of the East Dover Volunteer Fire Company, the governor was being heckled by an influential voice in the back of the room.
Kasimos, a hulking figure, described himself as a once loyal Republican who loved Christie with all his political heart. But that was all over now. He came to the firehouse with a campaign sign for Democrat Aimee Belgard, who is running against Republican Tom MacArthur in New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District, which includes Toms River. Later in the day, Christie was scheduled to campaign with MacArthur in Bordentown.
Staff from the governor's office moved in and warned Kasimos that the sign had to go.
Arrest me, Kasimos dared them.
"The problem with Christie is, he cannot take constructive criticism," Kasimos said. "If you can't take constructive criticism, you can't fix what's broken."

Is New Jersey governor and Republican Governors Association chairman Chris Christie undercutting Wisconsin governor Scott Walker's reelection effort? That's a question a number of influential Wisconsin Republicans have been asking behind the scenes over the past week after an October 16 Associated Press report indicated that Walker and his allies were being outspent by Democratic challenger Mary Burke and her allies.
ScottWalker
"The Center for Public Integrity reported Thursday that Walker and his backers spent nearly $6.1 million on ads through Monday, while Burke and her supporters ran nearly $6.6 million," the AP reported on Thursday. On Sunday, Walker told the Washington Post's Robert Costa: "We are always looking for more help. Our main help has to be the RGA." But according to the Center for Public Integrity, the Republican Governors Association has spent $5.9 million on TV ads in Michigan, where Governor Rick Snyder is up for reelection, and just $801,000 on TV ads in Wisconsin.

(10,252 posts)Over and over and over again. I want that loud mouth bully to make his species argument on national MSM over and over, so that no one, who making min. wage will ever forget, who is holding them back. Who is keeping them down. Who is making it impossible to ever get just a little bit ahead. Yeah, that Chris Christie. He's the one, who wants you to stay impoverished. And that goes for your kids too.

(29,067 posts)I'm sure..I'm originally from Philadelphia, but lived in Jersey for several years
before moving to Chicago 17 years ago -- When I became acquainted with Christie's
"style", something Republicans seem to find "presidential" for some reason, I
said to my huz "Is this what's passes for charm in Jersey these days"?, as I was
amazed that anyone would think his thuggish, bullying demeanor could ever go over
nationally.

but I do think he could be worse.

(31,828 posts)I don't think the gentleman heckled Christie at all.
Seriously- what he did was excercise his rights as a citizen. And a key thing here is how he handled the police chief.
We have a right to be heard in NJ - and Christie needs to understand that many people here think poorly of the job he has done.

(2,419 posts)with the police officer right at the end. He says, "this is not a public area". That says it all. The charade of the Christie town hall meetings is that they are somehow "public events". Clearly its all just staged political theater. (I know, that's not a particularly novel insight, but you rarely see it laid out before you like that) If he's got problems in Toms River, which is his biggest stronghold, then maybe the worm is turning. He's now got a 47%-41% disapproval to approval rating. The Sandy money, and his attempts to keep control over it, will ultimately be his undoing. Its at the heart of the Hoboken allegations, its what hurts normal people who were impacted by the storm and it represents the politicization of what was meant to be a very straight-forward aid program that reveals his true character-low as it may be.

(269,020 posts)How is a town hall meeting not a public area? I guess that the same was true for those 'Christie blocked' lanes on the GWB. LOL

(6,336 posts)And there was also an independent in the race that took more votes from Corzine than he did from Christie. A lot of progressives voted for the independent.
He didn't get 50% in his first election.
