I do expect them to come close. If repubs take control he will be a lame duck with the exception of his veto power

to fall apart. Republicans never focus on making things better, all they do is rip the place apart and work hard to make more and more people miserable. They are such real downers and haters in life, all negative energy.

Obama holds the veto pen, preventing the most lunatic Republican insanity from being enacted.

My fear would be that he compromises with the lunatics in the interest of "accomplishing" something/anything--as opposed to having nothing at all to show for his last two years in office. I've always suspected that was sort of why Bill Clinton signed the repeal of Glass-Steagall in 1999, as well as to please the bankers who would be useful to his post-presidential ambitions.

Quite possibly a lot of time, energy, taxpayer money, and corporate "news" wasted on impeachment grandstanding.

Can you tell the difference between the two parties, I can't. Sure they talk different but they act the same.

rigged. As George Carlin would say, it's a rich person's club, and we aren't part of it. A democracy? LOL! So sad.

The 2016 seats up will be the class of 2010, which was a GOP wave year. Seats like PA, WI, IL will be goners for the GOP (and in any other year the Dems would have won the seats).

I also think that if the GOP takes over the senate, any specials in blue or purple states will go the Dems way.

The stuff of nightmares: What a republican senate would look like
Aside from that the new republican senators would all be from the far right, the list of those taking over chairmanships is chilling:

Likely Judiciary Chair- Chuck Grassley. Not only would the President be shut down as far as appointment go, but the JC has oversight over the Presidency itself. Benghazi comes to the Senate.

Environment and Public Works: James Inhofe. What is there to say about this insane wingnut? Just that he's about as diametrically opposed to the current chair, Boxer, as is possible.

Finance: Orrin Hatch

Armed Services: McCain.

Budget: Wrap your head around this one: Jeff Sessions.

This really drives home the importance of holding on to the Senate.
