It has ceased to be.
Apparently, someone hit it with their car on purpose. I'm of several thoughts
1. It shouldn't have been there in the first place, but I wish it had been taken down properly
2. Now what are the satanists going to do with their statue of Baphomet
3. The conspiracy theorist in me says this is something to rile up conservatives in the state to go out and vote in the surprisingly close governor's race.

(67,109 posts)so much done today to sway peoples minds in politics and all. Someone could have done that possibly to shift the vote. That said, I agree with another poster that someone just might have run into it drunk, maybe. Also, someone might have just done it purely on purpose with no CT at all.

(15,383 posts)It probably was just a drunk idiot, but honestly, I wouldn't put it past the republicans to hire a guy to destroy it so they could have a campaign issue to rally the faithful with.
And I may have misspoke with the, "on purpose," part.

(3,818 posts)"They" are that fearful of anything that disrupts the status quo, up to and including taking down one of their statues.
Nothing nefarious, just plain ordinary fear of the unknown.

(82,849 posts)By the transitive property that anti-abortion forces use*, none of the money used to restore or replace the monument can be tax deductible. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, no?
*In the forced birther tribe, any money spent anywhere for abortion or birth control translates into having some effect somewhere on the federal treasury, and as such means that they are paying for abortion, which causes them to go into conniptions and run to the Supreme Court for whackadoo rulings such as corporations having religious beliefs.
