There are also doubts about how effective McConnell could be at getting any agenda through. He likely would be running a Senate with just a razor-thin Republican majority, riven by internal divisions between tea party acolytes and centrists over issues such as spending and immigration.
Even if McConnell can somehow keep the Senate Republicans united, they still wont have the 60 Senate votes needed to defeat a Democratic filibuster and get major legislation through much less the 67 votes to overturn a veto by President Barack Obama.

McConnell, as Republican minority leader, transformed how the rules are used in the Senate through the use of the filibuster as a weapon of mass obstruction, said Norm Ornstein, a centrist scholar on politics and Congress at the American Enterprise Institute.
It was used not just on a small number of issues where there are intense differences between the parties, but on the vast majority of nominations including those that ultimately passed unanimously or near unanimously and on almost every bill, he said.

(16,286 posts)government (as many decent and patriotic people are), then you are fucked if these assholes take the senate, because they are going to give Obama an ultimatum, deconstruct and destroy his signature legislation, ACA , or they shut down the government.
This WILL happen, but they know he wont relent (and they cant really allow it either, the health insurance industry would cut off their political heads) so they can shut it down, cause massive harm and even death probably to some, and then blame it all on Obama.
They know they lose power again in two years, the destruction they will attempt will be historical in it's harm and ugliness.
Imagine a SC justice dying or retiring in these last two years, pfft.
This is exactly the same thing as a terrorist organization coming in with guns and taking over DC by force.
Same results.
