was his home life dysfunctional?

I think a lot of times a boy this young learns how to treat women by how his father might treat his mother.

I don't know if that's the case here

Hell, many grown adults can't handle owning a gun without accidentally or purposely harming someone. So in that sense, his home life was dysfunctional.

on the gun owner .

If this was the parent s handgun they should not be able to absolved of charges filed against them

that is the ONLY way to stop this in a country where guns proliferate out of control. The owner of the gun used in crimes like this goes to jail for a LONG time.

Why should people have to fear going to school and teaching in them? My young nephew just out of college teaches in a high school. On the kind of pay that he gets, should he be asked to put up with this? He deserves combat training and a higher salary.

going to schools that have a low survival rate, from gang violence. His mission, turn kids onto Algebra. One of the kids was shot and killed the week before last on his way to school. devastated my son.
He is being paid 12,000 for the year, works 45 hours a week, was schooled on getting on food stamps (Americore kids depend on food stamps) at the end of a year, if he can stick it out, they will pay $5,000.00 towards his school loan debt.

teaching in a school where the students are assumed to be the potential victims of violence, OR teaching in schools where the violence is not assumed and happens because of a parent's refusal or negligence in securing their guns. (Mentally messed up teens are everywhere).

The latter case is not really a "random" act of violence. We can assume that there is now a serious risk of being in any way involved in the field of education in the United States.

Hope your son hangs in to the end of the year to collect his reward for fighting in the trenches.

How do you get past the 2nd Amendment? How do you get past the SCOTUS that would rule such a ban as unconstitutional? What about the 300 million + firearms already in circulation?
How about the political party that proposed that? How long before their sent packing?

It's the regulations are fought tooth and nail by gun owners

Instead of going all out it has to be done in baby steps.
In my state we passed the toughest gun laws last year of any state in the country.

It was easier here because of the Sandy Hook tragedy but it passed.
It didn't ban guns but it placed restrictions on registrations , ammunition sales
no private party sales unless approved by a gun dealer or the police.

Eventually I can see something like this passed by the federal level but
it has to be done in baby steps or what will happen is what happened when the President
tried to only pass the gun transfer law, he had Senator Feinstein get involved and the whole
thing just disintegrated and nothing passed.

impossible anyway - even in the U.K. one can still own a shotgun or hunting rifle. But universal background checks and some sort of licensing or registration couldn't hurt.

I mean, is having to get a license before you buy a gun really so unreasonable?

and heaven only knows what the answer is. When I went to vote on Saturday, I happened to notice one of the signs of a candidate for county sheriff. The sign proudly opined that [Name of Candidate] would protect 2nd Amendment freedoms. That was all it said and it told me all I needed to know about that candidate. Obviously I didn't vote for him.

Initiative 594 will close loopholes that allow people to buy guns online and at gun shows with no background checks. The NRA has of course spent a lot of money to try and defeat it and they even have an anti-gun control initiative of their own on the ballot. All we can do is vote and pray I-594 passes and I-591 fails.
