What is the best way to get Democrats to the polls??
Door to door canvasing of neighborhoods has been working fairly well for our Party but there is still no guarantee those folks will vote on election day. And it does little to inspire new voters to the polls.
I am very curious to see how Alison Grimes does in Kentucky against Mitch McConnell and huge odds? At the moment, the race is being called a toss-up, with a slight advantage to McConnell.
However, her campaign headquarters is located in Lexington, near the center of the state. Each day, she gets on her bus and drives to a different part of the state to personally meet the voters. There is tremendous enthusiasm for her. The people like her. She does not come across as a tool of the Party, although she is a steadfast Democrat in most of her views. She is not afraid to take a controversial stand.
Her daily ventures into the Bluegrass heartland has created a grassroots movement of sorts. Most of the folks that she meets will go to the polls and will vote for her. Whether or not they are measured in the polls is still to be seen?
She is also using FaceBook and the social media in a very effective way. She may be the first to use FaceBook in such an effective manner. Her supporters are commenting on her page 24/7 and her team is putting up subject topics every two or three hours for debate. It is creating a lot of interest.
But, and we will see how the race turns out, it seems to me that she may have created a new blueprint for how to connect with the voters and how to run a race during mid-terms elections, when Democrats tend to be less involved than Republican voters.

Stop admonishing us as "fucking retards" when we favor policy to the left of the party's current stance? Just a few things, maybe.

(111,098 posts)Some of these ads that they are spending millions of dollars on are the most bland BS I have ever seen and the candidates are like cardboard cut-outs... I want to see real people, with real passion, speak to the people, rather than the pollsters, and get out and meet the people, just as Alison Grimes has done in Kentucky.
