A few SSDI questions

I have a relative who applied for SSDI and got a letter today stating that she is medically approved but needs to get her non medical approval. So here are my questions.

1) is this a usual thing that she gets her medical approval first.

2) how long would it take to get non medical approval.

3) do they check anything other than the number of quarters worked total and the amount of time worked in the last 10 years.

I am hoping someone has some personal experience to fill in gaps. It is looking good for her as much as I can tell but this isn't my area of expertise.
