Silk to Ermine

There was a dire problem in American society. For 50 years the top 10% income earners were falling further and further behind. Okay, actually less and less further ahead, but you get the picture. You can almost see the point of panic...

It was a crisis! And the conservative movement rode to the rescue. Has anyone ever promised and delivered like that? BAM! Rags to riches... or rather, silk to ermine in 20 short years... for the top 10%. (For the top 1%, really, but the chart is calibrated to 10%)

I will spend my life in awe of the way they changed the economic thinking of almost everyone for a generation based on nothing except the presumed virtue of diverting more wealth to the top pecentiles.



This is pre-tax income. Think about that... this dramatic rise and fall of inequality is pre-tax, not an effect of tax rates at different times.
