6 things you should know about business in this $4 billion election

If this doesn't get you to the polls, nothing will. Long read, but well worth it.

Vote.

"The Center for Responsive Politics projects that nearly $4 billion will be spent on the 2014 congressional elections, making it the most expensive midterm election ever.

The business community is playing a big role in this spending — billionaires like Charles Koch and David Koch on the right and Tom Steyer on the left are using their wealth to support candidates and causes they believe in.

But what about the business groups and trade associations that play an everyday role in how policy is shaped in Washington, D.C. — what role are they playing in this election?

Here are six things I discovered from a deep dive into the Center for Responsive Politics' treasure trove of campaign finance data:

1) U.S. Chamber of Commerce, NFIB more Republican than ever
2) Realtors sold on GOP, not Democrats, this midterm
3) Most other trade associations tilt toward Republicans
4) The health care industry is fractured politically
5) The technology industry plays it safe
6) Marijuana is a budding political force
