He always seemed a little creepy...but yesterday he confirmed it. I arrived for work yesterday, and unfortunately for me, his bus wasn't coming for another 45ish minutes, so he decided to sit around and talk to me while I started my paperwork. Let's make a list of the things I've learned so far:
1. He has a large collection of guns. Not damning in and of itself, but added with the other stuff...
2. Someone bought a Halloween soundtrack cd for our office, only to decide never to listen to it ever again, because it was fuckiing creepy. Songs were called things like "Torture Chamber" or "Chainsaw Massacre", or "Electric Chair". It was track after track of really screwed up sounds and screams. He apparently quite liked it.
3. He starts in talking about all of his women problems. Supposedly two of his exes are just fighting over him, and them bitches just can't get enough He sounded exactly you would expect a red pill redditor to sound in real life: MRA bullshit toned down just enough to fly with most people. Oddly, after I mentioned that I have quite a few women who I like and respect in my life, and that I didn't want to hear it, he didn't have much more to say on the subject. Also, my nails are painted sparkly green currently, and I think it freaked him out
4. He's well trained in a bunch of martial arts because the "only thing thing (he's) ever been good at is hitting things".
5. He enjoys slasher movies. Extreme ones. The more blood and gore, the better.
I feel like there was more, but I don't remember. I was doing my best to ignore him while he monologued. I got all this and more in a less than 30 minute conversation, and another coworker told me she's heard him say really creepy stuff as well. It honestly makes me nervous. He's the kind of guy that is just dumb enough to cause serious problems if he ever wanted to, though I don't think he'd ever have the guts to go through with anything. I would be very worried if he ever stops doing the martial arts--from what it sounds like, it's the only thing keeping him somewhat balanced.

(16,286 posts)but if a grown man is talking this way, he is to be avoided big time.

(3,747 posts)I think his only saving grace is that he's honestly not that bright. He's probably completely unaware that he could ever do anything...

(17,796 posts)be aware and careful, but try not to change your behavior toward him. Both out of fairness, he may just have creepy taste, and for your own safety.

(3,747 posts)I think that's actually fairly likely. He doesn't seem too harmful (yet), because like I said in another post, he's just not that bright. I think he's going to be one of those people I avoid when I can, and politely ignore when I can't. Probably best that way, keeps things easy between us.

(17,796 posts)but the last thing I want to hear is some thing happening to you.
God, sound like a busy body, don't I.

AGAIN ... listen to that inner voice

(3,747 posts)Because I only told him off once, and ignored him and let him talk for the rest of the time. Gonna be careful just in case though.

(29,047 posts)One and four are meh.
Three depends on how funny he makes it, but your description makes it sound more about boasting than humor.
I hope he doesn't hurt anyone.

(3,747 posts)I don't know if you know what an MRA is, but they're the source of a lot of the most vile misogynistic shit that gets thrown around, particularly on the internet. I would look them up. Hearing him parrot those talking points, no matter how "funny" he can make it, is not funny. It's just more putrid tripe that the women in his life get to deal with. It was boasting, but certainly not humorous.
Two and five, meh. It's more the indication of a serious enjoyment of violence. You should have seen the way his eyes lit up when he started talking about how much gore and blood there was. Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it.
I hope so too.

(4,840 posts)I tend to attract the same kind but in my case, since I'm a guy, it's loser women and in some cases gay men with boundary issues. I can't tell you how many times I've been approached in a low brow sexual manner like I'm just a sex object. Like I'm going to respond to that.
Ever get the ones that touch you in a casual manner (even though you've never given them permission) just to see how you will react? I hate those the most. They think they're fooling you.

(3,747 posts)For the most part. No idea why--I've had it happen a couple times, but that's it. I'm thankful, though. Harassment sucks I've never understood how people think harassing others is going to get them laid.
They do think they're rather clever, don't they? I've never had it happen to me, but I've seen it happen to friends I was with. Funny how it only ever got them a nasty glare from the friend. It's fun watching their face when they realize they're about to get punched if they don't move their hand good to have friends who don't take that shit.

(3,818 posts)11 Americans die at work every day
Not only is your job irritating and stress-inducing, it might be deadly even if you work behind a desk.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in recent years, an average of 11 Americans die on the job every single day and another roughly 50,000 die annually because of illnesses they contracted on the job meaning that working kills roughly 54,000 Americans every year (and injures millions more).
So whats likely to kill you at work? The number one thing is transportation incidents (this killed nearly 2,000 people while at work in 2011, according to the National Safety Council, with the most common incident involving on-the-road car accidents). Thats followed by violence in the workplace, which typically consists of violent acts intentionally performed by another person, though in 37 cases the violent acts were committed by animals.

(3,747 posts)It's good to keep in mind, though :/ thankfully I'm good at conflict resolution, and if it comes down to it, then I'll say what I have to to keep myself safe, much as it pains me to "agree" with him.
Edit to say thank goodness I don't think he has a conceaed carry permit.
