Trick or Treat!
How many kids have you seen at your place tonight?
Zero.
38 and steady drizzle here tonight kept a lot of folks off our end of the village...

(14,733 posts)Roughly 250ish. We normally get 125-150 tops, but thanks to a confluence of conditions, it was a bumper crop. We only had candy for the first 175 or so, then I switched to half dollars, then I ran out of even those, and the last dozen or so kids got dollar coins before the two hour period finally ended.

(22,165 posts)We saw approximately 1/5 of the children we usually see ... most were later (around 7:30 PM, the rain became drizzle)

(7,869 posts)Weather is fine outside. Last year, I saw maybe 20. This year, zero We just went and bought like $50 worth of candy this morning, too. I don't know what to do with it all now. Are there any places that take, like, "donations" of a ton of leftover Halloween candy? Or any other good ideas to get rid of it?

(3,208 posts)Technically not my house, I go to my daughters in a big subdivision. Not as many as usual because it is very cold tonight.
Still a lot of fun!
Ninjas and Ninja Turtles seem to be big this year. My grandson's were a mummy and a ghost.

(17,045 posts)I've noticed however alot of parents DRIVING kids which is annoying to me.
Otherwise, I think I've been able to hand out most of what I've bought.

(2,434 posts)Why is that annoying?

(693 posts)Fortunately they weren't going too fast and no one was hurt. Just slight damage to the cars.
Thankfully most of the people who drive into our neighborhood park and walk around. The ones that drive along while the kids walk make me nervous. It adds so much driving traffic to the roads, and sometimes they're watching their kids on the sidewalk instead of the road. There are even a few where the kids are getting in and out of pick-up trucks but thankfully those are rare.

(4,012 posts)Poor kids. I hope their parents drive them to the mall or something.
This is why I buy the candy I like.

(12,081 posts)Last night I took the kids to a haunted house at a local farm. Tonight, we decorated, ate some candy and watched Hotel Transylvania with the kids.

(10,137 posts)It's chilly and it's been raining all day (yay!), so I think that's keeping the kids closer to home. We went through 8 bags by this time last year.
ETA: spoke too soon - we just had a second wave of kids come through!

(2,188 posts)My bell hasn't rung on this day in years. Kids just don't do it anymore.
Kalidurga
(14,177 posts)I was chasing them down so I got rid of all the bags of candy I made. Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I wanted bell ringers down to an absolute minimum because my dog goes berserk when she hears the bell, hears people walking to the house, a leaf falls, she sees a shadow, someone has a squeaky toy.

(693 posts)I had 4 huge bags of candy (172 pieces each) plus a few smaller bags of candy. Gave it all out then turned out the lights at 9:35. We get streams of cars full of kids from other neighborhoods here.

(23,156 posts)here in Santa Fe, helping with organizing stuff for canvassers tomorrow. I actually did it on purpose so as not to deal with trick-or-treaters, which is a bit mean of me.
The last few years I was working the information desk at our local hospital until 8pm, so I bought candy to give out from my information desk. Everyone loved it, staff and visitors alike.

(21,925 posts)I thought I heard movement outside the front door but I was apparently mistaken. It's the second year like this. This is California, overcast but mild temps. When I was a kid in the early 60s in Wisconsin, we'd go out in the bone-chilling cold this time of year to get candy and after that we'd go back a second time to collect coins for UNICEF.

(34,460 posts)their parents, to keep them safe.
I heard one dad call out to his kid, as I was handing out candy, "what do you say?" The kid quickly said, "trick or treat." Dad had to remind him that "thank you" is also necessary. Another kid asked if he were the last one to visit tonight and if so, maybe I should "donate" the rest of the candy!
It was cold here, but we had our usual number of little goblins and werewolves.

(18,318 posts)reason, they took only small amts. Out of two bags of candy, I have (unfortunately) a lot left over. Fireworks somewhere downtown, lots of creative costumes. Halloween is big in Austin.

(19,818 posts)we had 50 full size candy bars. We still have 40. Dont know where everyone was....last time we gave away full size candy bars we had 2 left.

(51,907 posts)We live uphill in a cul-de-sac. Long since gave up on buying Halloween candy, so it was a big surprise a few years ago to see a little witch and her dad. I got a Ziploc and gave her some of the cashews we keep around as a low carb snack.

(16,987 posts)...but make sure I have the candy anyway.
To be fair, I got home later than usual and on top of that kids are more likely to go to single-family homes. I did spot some tiny trick-or-treaters with accompanying grown-ups during the trip home. So the game is still on.
