MI: Absentee ballots show percentage of turnout that is 'unexpected,' says Genesee County clerk

FLINT, MI --The percentage of returned absentee ballots for municipalities in Genesee County is between 60 to 86 percent, according to numbers released by Genesee County Clerk's office Friday, Oct. 31.

County Clerk-Register John Gleason called the returns "unexpected" and said the percentage is better than many election years that feature the gubernatorial race.

"These numbers are nudging up to the presidential turnout," Gleason said.

While absentee ballots need to be received by municipalities by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, many of the cities and townships in the county have already had 70 percent of their absentee ballots returned.

The highest in the county is Forest Township, with 86 percent of absentee ballots returned.

Meanwhile, the city of Flint remains the lowest, with 60 percent of the ballots returned.

I'm not sure how to interpret this. What's the political makeup of the county that was mentioned?

fear that the ballots will not be delivered in time. Being as Michigan doesn't go by postmark date, but has a cutoff date for receiving them, it seems to be prudent to mail that thing in a week early. I've seen the mail service deteriorate over the last few years in this country, I suppose others have as well.
