ALEC caves on social conservative issues, will ‘redouble’ on economic front

ALEC caves on social conservative issues, will ‘redouble’ on economic front

1:22 pm April 17, 2012, by jgalloway

The American Legislative Exchange Council, which produces much of the legislation addressed by Georgia and other states, announced today that it would abandon conservative social issues — a response to liberal pressure that has already cost the group several corporate sponsors.

This from the press release, quoting David Frizzell, an Indiana state lawmaker and the current ALEC chairman:

“Today we are redoubling our efforts on the economic front, a priority that has been the hallmark of our organization for decades. Fostering the exchange of pro-growth, solutions-oriented ideas is precisely why ALEC exists.

“To that end, our legislative board last week unanimously agreed to further our work on policies that will help spur innovation and competitiveness across the country.

abortion and gay rights. Less so for economic issues, even though they affect way more people. For example, ALEC has been front and center in the destruction of education without much attention.

anti-union legislation and voter ID laws then they still have a long way to go.

ALEC should work to promote legislation to keep jobs in the US. That would go a long way to help solve some of our economic issues.

They're not going to distract themselves with some of the tangential oppression, they're going to focus on their core values of fucking over anyone who cashes a paycheck for a living, instead of making money the old-fashioned way (stealing it out of the pockets of their workers).

I want them to disband and disappear.

I can't think of anything that threatens democracy more than these legislation and bribery mills.
