Voted straight Dem except for the office of Sheriff, I was going to vote for the Dem candidate, but during the debate against the Repub. candidate, she made the comment that a UN treaty absolutely trumps the US Constitution, my jaw dropped to the ground because on her campaign signs, she claims she's the Constitutional candidate.
If you don't know the Constitution, how can you claim to be the Constitutional candidate?
Her opponent, a 31 year veteran of the Sheriff's office, is going to win and win by a large margin just because of her gaffe.

(9,951 posts)she said that whether or not the treaty is ratified, it trumps the Constitution, and another boneheaded statement from her was that she would have no power to stop the feds from coming into the county and pretty much doing what the wanted to do, and she would have no choice but to help them, which is patently false.

(1,020 posts)If we have a ratified treaty with the United Nations then it is the law of the land.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

It may have been a inadvertent slip of the tongue, but she never corrected herself, and I only voted for the Repub candidate because of his experience and it's a non partisan position.
