I can't fucking believe this. The Repuke is up by 90,000 votes.

(34,476 posts)I don't think it's an indication of a trend re: where MD will be on most elections.

(4,062 posts)Hogan will be a fucking disaster if it goes to him.

(35,701 posts)Many dark red (indicating 100% of precincts reported) Most of the blue counties still have 40-60% of the precincts out.

(20,166 posts)I'm from Maryland and have lived on the Eastern Shore, out in Frederick (Western Maryland), and in Montgomery County.
The liberal Baltimore and DC suburbs (e.g., Montgomery County) are sandwiched between two very rural and conservative parts of the state.

(7,699 posts)Maryland has never had a Republican governor worth a shit. Criminals and liars and budget slashers all.

(36,747 posts)I hope it turns around.
DebJ
(7,699 posts)the first three things he will do, is cut education funding (and I now forget the other two)...
and I was right on all of them. Not even 6 months in. Suddenly, voters were squealing.
That was the last time I lived in/voted in Maryland.

(36,437 posts)The majority of the Dem precincts are not.
So, no. You'll have a Dem governor.

(42,759 posts)Brown has been sinking like a stone. Gansler was a flawed candidate in the primary, but it turns out Brown wasn't that great either.

(35,701 posts)Baltimore City - A lot of the strong Rep, counties are at 100%. Still, it is closer than it should be.

(4,062 posts)I am using http://elections.state.md.us/elections/2014/results/General/gen_detail_results_2014_2_BOT003-.html
but they are not giving portions of county reported.

(9,893 posts)Brown said that he had nothing to do with the computer aspect of it which went very badly, but I don't think that his message got traction.
I've heard a lot of grumbling about that rollout and not wanting to reward the person who was perceived to be in charge.

(5,790 posts)Only 34% of Montgomery County (deep blue) has been counted. Charles, PG, and Baltimore City are 60-70% counted. Howard is also about 65% counted.
It's not done yet -- that said, Hogan is doing surprisingly well.

HAS too.

(35,701 posts)Montgomery County, a huge Dem county lagging at only 36% reported. There are a ton of Democratic votes still out.
Slade347
(3 posts)61-37 with 94 % reporting. Normally that county is pretty reliably blue. Obama won in 2012 by a 57-41 margin.
That might prove to be the difference if Hogan wins.
Ugh.

(1,417 posts)I was not expecting Hogan to win Baltimore County at all!

(35,701 posts)Presidential elections. This election is going to be decided in Montgomery and Prince Georges. It doesn't look so good right now. Reminds me of the first Glendening/Saurbrey election when Glendening just squeaked by.

(8,217 posts)I miss having Donna Edwards as my Congressperson.
Well, it is still only 77% showing...
Slade347
(3 posts)He's up by 125,000 votes. As blue as it is, I have a lot of trouble seeing the uncounted votes in Montgomery County making up that difference.
I think it's just a matter of time until the race is called.
yellowcanine
(35,701 posts)Turnout in PG was subpar also. Only good thing that I can see if Hogan wins is he has promised so much on the social issues that he cannot do a whole lot of damage. And he has to compromise a lot with the Dem House and Senate if he expects to get anything done or look for a lot of overturned vetoes.
yellowcanine
(35,701 posts)But it still stinks. MD Dems have no one to blame for this except themselves.

(35,701 posts)Turnout in Dem strongholds was down significantly. They did not rally behind their candidate. If you are not going to rally behind your candidate, then pick a candidate you can rally behind.

(1,638 posts)For what it's worth, I thought Brown seemed like he'd be a pretty good governor. As someone else said, the MD results probably breaks my heart more than anything else.

(35,701 posts)Hogan as Governor and 2 Democrats - Nancy Kopp (State Treasurer) and Peter Franchot (Comptroller).
Combined with the Dem House and Senate, this means that Hogan has to play nice if he expects to get anything done. If he plays the bully as Ehrlich did he will be a one termer just like Ehrlich.

(10,457 posts)Or move to back to Pennsylvania.
At least Brian Frosh won for AG.
