(18,124 posts)this was not just some mid term election. It was a referendum on how americans wanted their government run. With all of the known vote suppression laws put into place, the known agenda of the Reich wing in this country, shouted from the rooftops really, those americans that voted have run the ship of state into that proverbial ice burg. This ship of state is sinking and any help is TWO years away. We are all on that ship. Women and children first? With the voters, that voted, a MAJORITY have said in a loud and unequivocal voice, HELL NO!!!!!

(4,299 posts)Corporate money and gerrymandering are the problem. I can't believe you don't know that and are blaming "those of us that voted." That's worse than sad. So glad I live in California and you...
heaven05
(18,124 posts)just those of us who didn't. A majority voted for what we got. Period. Don't attack me with BS. Please.

(18,124 posts)what you please. No concern of mine. "A MAJORITY of Reich wing voters have voted for what we Democrats received in this election. Those Democrats who did not vote are to blame for the Reich wing MAJORITY being victorious. Same gerrymandered districts were in place in 2012, no real big difference. The Democratic Party has money, where was our television ad blitz? I did not see it. Period. Your anger is misplaced. No more to be said by me. I'm glad you're in California also. bye bye

I did not proclaim that. You did.

voting democrats asked for what we have to deal with for the next two years. First no fighting the redistricting by our leadership. None. No fighting the voter suppression machinations, not verbal umbrage, anything on a national level. I stood and sat in my car and drove and drove again and again by my polling place yesterday. Heavily democratic area, only white males with snyder written all over them were voting in steady numbers. The only victory we had is a new Senator with a (D) otherwise VERY light turnout and 90% of the local people winning in local races have an (R) by their name. Parking area, never a lot of cars. Okay I apologize if my words could be construed as me saying the voting Democrat caused this ship of state to start sinking. We tried to grab the wheel yesterday and turn this ship. People who are democrats and said, "oh we are okay, we are heading in the right direction and did not try to turn this ship(get off their asses and pull the democratic party lever) are just as responsible for this sinking ship as any tea partier, reich wing idealog, racist, homophobe who voted to install a reich wing Senate and House of Representatives. Some women, some minorities in my area, but mainly old and young white males. WE DID NOT VOTE IN THE NUMBERS we are capable of, there is the purpose of my words...............not blaming any democrat that voted. Sorry I could be misconstrued. My fault.

(2,060 posts)change things to keep themselves in power going forward. And one of their own will be the next president. And I don't mean Jeb Bush.

(67,112 posts)themselves to be propagandized into with no brains engaged. Let's see, apparently they want more takeover by corporate America, a reduction in healthcare, more wars, an increase in the MIC, even less rights for women, lots more guns, possibly an attempt at impeachment, maybe even full removal of ACA, a reduction in civil rights and lots of hostilities and probably another financial meltdown. I guess the strategy of some democrats kicking Obama around really worked well for them, that is, for the republicans.

(31,402 posts)followed by Bobby and MLK. Then, somehow, the rise of Reagan to sainthood
when everything he did and stood for started the country swirling down the
toilet. The stolen elections of 2000 and 2004, supported by a Supreme Court
willing to stop counting the votes meant the country was doomed. Obama
never had a chance. He thought he could negotiate with the power mad
oligarchy, intent on making themselves richer without regard to what that
would mean for the rest of the country. Obama was wrong.
I do feel as though someone has died: as though a dear friend lost the battle to cancer,
which spread so far and wide that it finally took over and killed the host.
Indeed, RIP, the Republic. Old Ben Franklin was right.
The last few years were just this country on life support. They pulled the plug last night.

It's normal to lose at this cycle. For those of us who are older, we remember. It sucks when it's our loss, but it's not the end of the world.
It just seems like it.

(9,894 posts)I am somewhat older and I think it gets scarier and scarier. Maybe it's as I get closer to retirement, maybe I just see us getting deeper and deeper into a hole. Maybe for me it is that even after this economic disaster people still prefer what caused the disaster. Or worse, don't understand what caused the disaster. Every lost cycle just takes away a little more hope, because some things should transcend the cycle.

(70,299 posts)here in Wisconsin--Gov Walker just won his 3rd term (count the failed recall). It just seems bad right now...."Every lost cycle just takes away a little more hope, because some things should transcend the cycle."

(1,648 posts)Even if we chose the correct choices for energy, economics, taking care of less fortunate, etc. I seriously am in doubt that we can "right our ship of state" (or that of our planet...even more gruesome) Yes, I say with the timing of this election, it is the worst. So, what can we do? I say, get the wagons in a circle, and plan for an ass kicking election in two years...but first we gotta change campaign financing and I mean NOW.

(725 posts)With the Supreme's and two houses of Congress all in the hands of Republican majorities, all wanting to keep the system of dark money that the campaign finance laws helped bring those Republican victories last night, and with the Supreme's allowing the restrictive Texas voter ID law to stay in place, I say, GOOD LUCK trying to get a change to campaign financing.

(9,894 posts)(theoretically) savable at 2000. 2000 was the moment of flatline - blinking lights, alarms blaring, even a terrain warning screaming in the background - that required an immediate and strong response. Nothing happened, so the patient expired.
