Carl DeMaio Concedes To Democrat In Calif. House Race

Republican congressional candidate Carl DeMaio announced Sunday that he would concede to Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA).

“It is increasingly clear we will fall short when the final votes are tabulated,” DeMaio told the U-T San Diego. “Because I care about San Diego, I wish Mr. Peters the best and hope he will endeavor to represent the district well.”

DeMaio had led Peters on the morning after Election Day but has since fallen behind as San Diego County began counting absentee and provisional ballots. There were still between 6,000 and 8,000 votes left to count as of Sunday, although Peters was leading DeMaio by a margin of 4,771 votes, according to the newspaper.

DeMaio told the U-T San Diego that he planned to reach out to Peters on Monday after the final votes were counted.
