GOP Wave Was Really Only A Ripple. With 19% Of The Vote It's Not A Mandate. (Original Post) TheMastersNemesis Nov 2014 OP

Math is probably off , but you get my point.....it was a red/Purple state election for the most part....2016 will be VERY different

It's a mandate as far as those who were elected are concerned. Do you really they they will moderate their views or their agenda based on the percentage of actual voters who voted for them?

Do you think they care how few people put them in power? They got it; they will run with it as though they got 90%.

Even in LBJ's high turnout landslide, he was only supported by some 38% of eligible voters.

How sad that 63% couldn't be bothered to get off their couch and vote this year.

Especially the slight bump in youth voting those years.

No shiny object on the ticket? They stay home.

What does it say about our two parties when one can sweep into office with 19% of the vote? Our parties have made an art out of dividing the vote without ever really offering anything to their constituents. I mean really, and party that went after Wall Street and made it a priority to improve the lives of working people would beat 19% easily.

But not won when Obama was elected twice. Sure the turnout was a bit higher but not by much. The fact is a lot of people never vote, so they dont get a say.
