Elon Musk plans global Internet access using lightweight satellites

The San Jose Business Journal notes a Wall Street Journal that Tesla Motors Inc. Co-founder Elon Musk is involved in developing a global satellite network to establish worldwide Internet access.

The team, which includes Greg Wyler, a former Google Inc executive and the founder of satellite maker O3b Networks Ltd., would launch around 700 satellites.

According to the report, the team has had discussions with officials in Florida and Colorado to build a satellite factory.

Probably got ALEC working on this right now - like selling Teslas without car dealers, try to make selling internet access outside of their box illegal.
Interesting times.
