Looks like Remington is going through with the second round of layoffs in 3 months. In about 1 year remington will open their new factory in Alabama, so the factory in NY might be completly shut down soon. It sucks for the workers, but I dont blame remington after the passage of the safe act.

(39,377 posts)If Remington wants to pick up its marbles and go to Alabama, let them. We get better gun safety and fewer deaths.
Cheers.

You are naive if you think the laws NY passed will result in fewer gun deaths, crime has always been a function of economic and social pressures, not the availability of an inanimate object.

(39,377 posts)I'll take stronger gun control and the fourth lowest gun death rate over your intuitive assurances.

NY was THIRD in the total number of murders in the United States in 2013, California with it's strict gun control was first.
States & territories with lowest numbers for murders*:
Hawaii 9
Vermont 9
Guam 9
North Dakota 11
South Dakota 12
Virgin Islands 14
Montana 15
Wyoming 15
New Hampshire 21
Maine 24
Those in bold are states considered to have "loose" or less restrictive gun laws
*While Alabama is listed with only two murders, the FBI report indicates that Alabama does not report homicides to the FBI

If only we could do away with all those pesky food safety, work safety, etc etc. laws it would be Nirvana!

(5,455 posts)and expanding in NY makes no sense for a firearms company. Why stay in a state where the Governor hates your product and the people who purchase it and evens prevents employees from buying the very product they make every day. There are about 1000 employees left, probably a good 80% of them are union employees.

(1,033 posts)Alabama promised them WAY more than favorable gun laws. Our state education system is spiraling down the toilet and our governor sold the farm to get Remington here. He won't expand Medicaid because he said it would cost the state too much but he bends over and takes it from a gun company.
Again, it's Alabama. I expected no different.

(22,165 posts)Here's a quick look at what incentives the state, the cities of Huntsville and Athens, plus Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties have agreed to kick in to land the more than 2,000 jobs associated with Remington's first gun plant in the Southeastern U.S.
The total investment by state and local governments is $68.9 million:

(15,396 posts)Plenty of great single stack 9's to choose from.
Now if Glock can manage a 42 sized 9mm, I may finally have a reason to buy another one.
