The City of Omaha honored the family of Marine Cpl. Shane Kielion on Thursday with a mayoral proclamation for the 10th anniversary of Kielions death. Kielion died in the battle for Fallujah while serving in Anbar Province in Iraq on Nov. 15, 2004, the same day that his son, Shane Jr., was born.
Kielion, 23, was a former Omaha South High School quarterback and a rifleman with the 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force.
The ceremony honoring Kielion was held Thursday at the Omaha Police Department's southeast precinct, 2475 Deer Park Blvd.
April Kielion, in a recent interview with The World-Herald, said that although she has moved on with her life since the death of her husband 10 years ago, Shane Sr. is far from forgotten.
