I was a complete anti-government nut job for about 4 years (2007-2011).

Eventually saw through all the libertarian bullshit about mid-2011. I had an epiphany following the Gabby Giffords shooting and slowly but surely saw things from a completely different perspective.

Been voting a straight Democratic ticket ever since.

Then we will have to step up our strategy. Whoever we nominate will have to deal with is libertarian bent. He still has issues that are outside mainstream America and those will have to be the focus of the Democratic campaign. Nothing to fear really.

He is looking almost sane. His anti-war stance will resonate with many dems, I fear. He has a kind of charisma that the other R-retreads lack.

After GWB, I don't take anything for granted.

to exploit (not the least his being a bit of a racist and his disrespect for the poor). But he'd attract a lot of voters from those who voted in the mid-terms and those who sat at home.

I know a lot of folks have issues with Maher, but he did give a Million bucks to support Obama. I suspect a lot like him might do the same for a "compassionate sounding" Republican/Libertarian who supports end to drug war, less military action, etc.

It's going to be a couple of years of real anxiety.

Conservatives have a lot of people convinced that if GOP are given ALL the reins of peer, (none of this checks and balance divided government nonsense) they will do all that Obama has tried to do for the people, only better and more. But this time under the benevolent authorship of conservatives (and here is the closer) After all. Nixon invented the EPA and if you look deeply enough into libertarian academia, they actually have a plan for all the problems we have. I assume the plans wouldn't work without ENORMOUS government investment, which just makes the PuKKKes a bunch of liars. But they could never pull it off because after the collegial veil is pulled down, they are nothing but a bunch of mostly male individuals who hate cooperation and civility. The Pauls included.

I would guess that his hypothetical support for Ayn Paul comes with a number of insurmountable conditions.

I recognize the areas where my beliefs and Paul's overlap. And yet I utterly reject his ideology, and furthermore I reject him as a person. He's some kind of weird combination of fascist libertarian.

FUCK RAND PAUL. It can't be said enough.

But it has to be more than that. His politics and ideology have to be exposed and rejected in concise arguments that peel away his political support.

More to the point, they find him to be sort of amusing. I live in a State that just legalized cannabis, so that's a big issue here and no one thinks he actually favors the policies we favor. No one. Not even the Republicans. They really dislike him.

I'm always amazed when I read posts that say 'I know lots of people who like him' because it is so very different from my own experience. I don't doubt it, but I would like to report the opposite since it is also the case.

and kicking his legs out from underneath him.

Get off the stupid and failed drug war, propping up over powered police, backing stupid and random ass wars, and get back to supporting basic civil liberties and all he has got is regular ass TeaPubliKlan bullshit.

The only plausible threat he poses is because of a hide bound and foolish insistence on doing the wrong things for absurd reasons.

Fear of lame ass Randroid is directly in line with an insane insistence on doing really stupid and wrong things that allow him a platform.

If he is any sort of threat, it is about 100% our own fool fault. He is nothing.
