The phrase 'straw dogs' is drawn from the Tao Te Ching, and refers to ceremonial objects of ancient China, carefully prepared and used in ritual (with great reverence), and then thrown away like rubbish...

http://www.suprmchaos.com/bcEnt-Sun-091811.index.html

That's a negative sense, as people are fickle and put all their own failures upon leaders. Taken in a positive sense, it's okay:

In Ancient China, they used real dogs at one time to make ceremonial sacrifices. (This was a long time ago, people. A far more barbaric time than today…) One day, someone brilliantly decided to substitute straw dogs for real ones. (Yeah! Progress!) So, apparently, these straw dogs were ritualized and honored. If you have ever really looked closely at sacrificial rights, the item being sacrificed, if done properly, is extremely respected for giving its life for the sake of the people. (Does this sound familiar?) Staying on that vein, I think that is why Jesus accepted his fate so willingly. He knew he was really a straw dog. It was all cool to him. He knew that the form of his body was not what it was really all about. He knew that it was his spirit that meant something and he was willing to sacrifice his form to prove it.

If you read Chapter 5 of the Tao Te Ching, you will see that Lao Tzu was referencing the straw dogs to explain how our form is really just a superficial (and therefore meaningless) form of who we really are. After the ritual, the straw dogs are tossed in the dirt. Does this mean that we do not appreciate what those dogs represented? No. It means that we truly understand that what those dogs represented has nothing to do with form, so we toss the form.

... then within a year of his taking office, I watched DU turn.

Some here did think he was the Messiah, going to cure all their ills in one stroke. And when that did happen, they lost their minds.

They wanted a magical primary challenger in 2012 ... now they're praying for an alternative to Hillary.

If they spent have as much time working on creating better candidates, than screaming about Obama and now Hillary, they might have an actual candidate to talk about.

See, I knew Obama wasn't going to fix all our problems in 4 or even 8 years. It was going to take much longer. Surely every sane Democrat knew that.

Apparently not.

The last few years on DU helped me see where the right wing came up with the idea. They didn't invent it out of whole cloth.

Back in 2012, much of DU was screaming for a primary challenge to Obama. Did they have a candidate in mind? Nope. They were screaming for a mythical character.

Now two years later, they are again clamoring for a mythical candidate to appear. For some its Warren, for other, Bernie.

These folks ignore anything either Warren or Bernie says that includes compromise. And if either became President, they'd compromise at some point, and they cycle of screaming would continue.

You guys have been complaining endlessly since the day Obama got elected.

Meanwhile, UE is down about 5%, DOW (and my 401k) are UP. Housing prices stabilized. War in Iraq is over. And I can count at least 5 relatives that are more likily to live longer thanks to Obamacare.

But hey, the new Messiah should be along any minute.

up her integrity to George Bush.

As far as "complaining" goes, I will continue to be "not satisfied" until we end child poverty in this country. The health of Wall Street as you mention is a slap in the face of the 99%, but warms the hearts of the Conservatives.

We are waging a war, fighting, literally for lives, against the Conservative ideology. HRC is on the side of the Conservatives (Goldman-Sachs).
