Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWill the President plan for immigration reform really help udocumented workers?
The president's plan will allow undocumented immigrants who are parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents, known as green card holders, to register with the federal government and, if approved, receive a three-year protection from any deportation.
I wish he would go further but I understand he can't but will people actually come out and do this?
Sounds more like a trap

(589 posts)It would be in most people who are thinking about doing this.
I think undocumented workers will avoid this and not register

(589 posts)There wasn't a 3 year limit
Rex
(65,616 posts)Three years is a lot of time to get your house in order.
At least Dems acted like adults and didn't cost the taxpayers billions of dollars having a huge cry over their own incompetence. The GOP cannot say the same thing.

(589 posts)They don't care about immigration reform
If they did they had 8 years to do it with Bush
If you remember the congress and senate was pretty united during the first few years
Democrats and Republicans actually talked to one another in both houses.
This isn't about republicans this is about this plan for reform of immigration tonight.
Nothing will change because they won't register with this 3 year limit

(65,616 posts)before being thrown back across the border, you really think this is a plan to blackmail these folks somewhere down the line? Good luck with that. Nobody is going to believe that garbage.
Does it bother you that Bush and Reagan did the exact same thing? Do you believe in amnesty?

Talk to some and just ask them , that's all just ask them
That's what I did

(589 posts)Then I disagree with you because I know many undocumented workers also
and call many of them my friends
and they feel this can go bad for the ones who register .
I work in the food service industry

(65,616 posts)and they have gone far far beyond just holding some paperwork against you. Did you know they spy on all your calls and dig through your emails?
What you worry about is small potatoes to what has been going on for the last 30 years! Glad to see you waking up to the Big Brother state!
You don't even want to hear about this other group called the CIA.

(589 posts)I would be surprised if even 1% of the 5 million register with this plan
I'll be curious to see the numbers if they are ever made public which they
probably won't be.
Rex
(65,616 posts)I won't bet on all 5 million showing up, but I do bet on far more than 1%.

(6,498 posts)Of course, there's no guarantee, since citizens do get deported from time to time, but if I were you, I'd register all of my guns (or better yet, have them all melted down), and stop worrying so much.
