Do You Buy Products on Craigslist?

Then you need this URL:

http://www.saferproducts.gov

Keep it handy, because a news report this morning showed that the method used by Craigslist to prohibit postings of dangerous, defective products is not as good as what is used by eBay and Amazon.

I find Craigslist to be very helpful for certain items, but this is a reality and everyone needs to know about it.

If you would like to see the newscast, go to:

https://gma.yahoo.com/craigslist-irresponsible-over-recalled-products-policy-115716849--abc-news-topstories.html

I don't think Craig Newmark is a bad guy, but this wasn't handled the best way.

... and as a free service the vast majority of its users I completely disagree with the premise of the article that CL has any responsiblity to deal with recalls, etc.

It would be next to impossible to do for starters given the free form format of the content.

I am happy to do my own research and avoid buying something I don't want.

All sorts of businesses, especially newspapers, HATE CL because they provide a service the the newspapers used to charge an arm and a leg for. I used to pay $50 for a simple 2-line classified, no more.

I've done tons of business on CL both buying and selling and I've had an almost universally good experience.

mostly things for my kids. Foosball, air hockey/pool table/table tennis and a skeet ball game. All of them being top of the line Sportscraft products. My biggest haul was a 20 foot round Doughboy pool which was only a year old. Of course the kids lost interest after a few days and now they sit and collect dust.

And only if they provide pictures, accept cash, and agree to meet in public.

Caveat Emptor.

Sometimes I only look and it gives me a good idea of what live stock is going for in my area.

I am about to post about trading rams.
If you need new blood in your herd and would like to trade for a 2 year old katahdin/dorper proven Ram for another katahdin ram, let me know.

a person is interested in what you have for sale, they e-mail you using a craigslist e-mail address (your e-mail address is hidden). From there you get your contacts phone number, negotiate the final price, where to pick up item, etc. etc. No different than placing an ad in your local newspaper, except it's free.

I bought a MAN-A-FRE 4 deuce manifold NOS for $600 bucks and sold it a week later for $1800. Craigs list is a way for me to make money. Just have to know what you are looking for.

Believe it or not, he does customer service. He seems to enjoy it.

How do I know this? A friend of mine is his neighbor in Cole Valley in SF. Craig turned up on Steve's FB page, so I followed him. He lets followers comment (as does Pam Spaulding of Pam's House Blend fame!), so it's almost as good as being friends.

It's true that he founded it and still owns an undisclosed stake in the company, but he handed over operational control of Craigslist way back in 2000. He really is just on their payroll as a customer service rep nowadays, when he's in their office at all.

If ABC wanted an answer to their question, they really should have tracked down Jim Buckmaster, Craigslist's CEO.

I made $220 this month selling stuff left over from remodeling, also 2 winter coats that no longer fit. Over the years, I've made over $1,500.
