and is prepping for record flooding as all that snow melts over the week-end. I just checked the weather report - it calls for icy rain on Saturday. Ice is the worst - it brings down tree branches and takes down power lines.

(60,346 posts)1. It's only going to be 56 here in Cleveland...
The climate here isn't that much different than Buffalo with the exception of how much snow we get vs what they get.
I don't see it melting the 3 - 4 inches we have let along 6 feet. Then it will get cold again next week.
Whoever came up with the thought that there would be mass flooding so quickly is just looking for more hype.

THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR
* A PORTION OF WESTERN NEW YORK... INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES... GENESEE... NORTHERN ERIE... SOUTHERN ERIE AND WYOMING.
* FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING.
* SNOW MELT FROM THE RECENT SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENTS COMBINED WITH RAINFALL EARLY NEXT WEEK WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT FLOODING.
* SMALLER STREAMS AND CREEKS WILL BE PRONE TO FLOODING FROM SNOW MELT. THIS WILL INCLUDE THE CREEKS THAT FLOW THROUGH THE BUFFALO METRO AREA... INCLUDING CAYUGA... BUFFALO... .... followed by below freezing temps the next day .... it will be a mess.
