2.2% isn't huge, but being in the running is a pretty big deal! Keep it going strong and peaceful across the country- AND VOTE!!
TIMEs editors choose the Person of the Year, but that doesnt mean readers shouldnt have their say, TIMEs website says.
In a list of over two dozen individuals that include the likes of Taylor Swift, Pope Francis, John Kerry, Shonda Rhimes, Vladimir Putin and Ebola doctors and nurses, Ferguson protestors currently come in at No. 11 with 2.2 percent of the vote.

(30,764 posts)I don't care about them.
I do care about the state of law enforcement in my country. I care about human rights and racial justice. I care about how Ebola is fought, and about how some politicians are influencing us.
Entertainers throw big parties on prime time TV, give each other trophies, and pat each other on the back. They expect us to watch and cheer. Let them have their own awards, and stay out of this one.
Of course, if she or some other entertainer wins this, it will only make me more certain that I was right ten years ago when I stopped subscribing to Time.

(14,449 posts)Hard to blame Time on the winner that voters chose. Ebola is closer to winning then Ferguson. I think voters probably think Ferguson is to controversial to win a prestigious award like Time Magazine Person of the Year.

(13,390 posts)We're very serious about keeping this in the forefront and pushing for something positive that will benefit us all. We are all safer if law enforcement is held accountable. I think occupiers and anyone who has themselves, or known someone who has experienced disrespect or bullying during an interaction with police.

(13,390 posts)are dominating my playlists now. I would not be surprised if Chuck D were to step up into some kind of leadership if any emerges. He's brilliant and has published some valuable observations of the media "Fight The Power: Race, Rap, and Reality" is a great read!

(10,597 posts)Another thing... TIME magazine needs to change. It needs to add a new face to the back of that issue: the most reviled person of the year. I think Jay Nixon might be in the running for that honor. Or a tie, like McConnell and Boehner.

(13,390 posts)Not a bad idea, and Jay Nixon would certainly have my vote! The deadline is Dec. 6. I think it's likely that we will hear a decision by then. If the protests that follow proceed as we plan\hope, I think there may actually be a chance.

(13,390 posts)According to the web site, Time makes the final decision but they look at the poll data.
His most significant accomplishment is doing nothing. He failed at making Obama a one-term president. The republicans now have the Senate. But, I think it's debatable whether they won it or took over because of Democratic failures.
I am not sure that it's reasonable to blame Mitch McConnell for all of the racist pathology in this country.
I think it would be more likely to be him next year if he is able to accomplish something significantly nefarious or betray republicans and do something that allows Obama to claim success.
I don't think Hillary would be a reasonable choice until she actually does something related to running for off. So far she has let other people do the work.
I think a very strong argument could be made for John Kerry considering where we appear to be going.
We'll know after the decision whether there have been consequences that rise to the level the Time editors allegedly demand.
I ignore the pop culture and entertainment nominations possibly out of hope.
You may be right. I'm just going by what I see as logical and definitely informed by my biases. We shall see how it plays out.
