One more layup for Lauren Hill as cancer-stricken basketball player scores again
BEREA, Ohio There wasn't supposed to be another "Layup for Lauren.'' But Lauren Hill never ceases to amaze, and her basket Friday night for Mount St. Joseph University was another moment in a life with cancer being lived to the fullest.
Hill scored an unexpected field goal, her third career basket, against Bethany College at the Baldwin Wallace Invitational. After bugging coach Dan Benjamin throughout the game about playing, then warning him that she was beginning to fade, Hill checked in with 8:06 remaining and MSJ trailing by 14 points.
She nearly stumbled before receiving the ball, but caught herself and took a pass from Taylor Brown on the left post. Bethany forward Kelsi Settle backed off just a little as Hill turned, dribbled once and floated a nice, right-handed shot that caught nothing but net for a 56-44 deficit with 7:47 to play.
