Video shows Stockton teacher dragging student

A Northern California P.E. teacher is charged with abusing a child after trying to force her into a swimming pool during class. The struggle was captured on camera by another student. The incident happened at Edison High in Stockton during P.E. class at the schools pool.

The video shows the teacher, Denny Peterson, trying to drag a 14-year-old girl into the pool back in August.

The teen reportedly did not want to participate get in the pool because she just had her hair done that morning for an evening event.

Peterson was put on paid leave for a month, but then assigned to another Stockton school. He was charged with misdemeanor corporal injury to a child.

The family says they plan to file a lawsuit.

That he keeps his job is absurd.

You never, ever, touch a student unless it's to protect them from harm and you sure as hell don't go dragging them around like that.

For all the bickering back and forth and defense of hard-working teachers, there is something wrong with a system that allows this fucker to keep his job.

The system is broken.

It's up to the CTC, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, whether or not a particular conviction will permanently revoke their credential, or suspend it.

Mitigating actions, like seeking counseling, can sway the CTC one way or another, but in the end it's up to them.

If they want to, one can lose their credential for seemingly minor offenses or they might keep them for offenses that seem serious, like the physical assault witnessed in this video.

Sad, isn't it?

Having been a teacher and an admin, I can saw with experience that the system sucks in many ways.

He was reassigned to a different school, a desk job, I hope, and not a classroom.

Only when the video came out did they put him on paid leave.

Until the criminal case is adjudicated, we can expect him to remain on paid leave, with benefits.

I'm sickened by this.
