From Quora: Which country should an anti-Obama conservative move to?

Quora is a question-and-answer website where questions are created, answered, edited and organized by its community of users (Wikipedia definition). I like to read the site, because in general the answers to questions are polite and intelligent.

I came across this question today at Quora: Which Western democracy should an American conservative move to if they are afraid of Obama's socialist policies and want to move somewhere more in line with Republican ideals?

I don't know if the question is sincere or if it's a troll, but it has generated many great answers. For example:

"I've lived in Pakistan and know a little about the tribal areas. These would be perfect for you. No rules. No government. No one pays taxes. Of course, there are no roads to speak of, no schools to speak of, no health care forced on you or even available, and everyone needs to carry a weapon because there is little law or government to enforce it. Which may be what you are looking for. It is pure freedom - from rules - and any form of security. Give it a go and let us know how you like it."

Unfortunately for American conservatives just about all Western democracies are far more liberal and pragmatic than the Obama administration is. To escape the sort of regulatory environment and welfare state they fear they'd have to flee to a country like Somalia or Haiti--libertarian paradises where money equals power and there are no federalized government checks on personal freedoms and little to no taxes.

English is the official language. It would be perfect for them.

I don't care if it matches their ideal of government, I just don't want them coming back.

Tea baggers wouldn't like Russia, but a lot of moderate Republicans sure do ask for a lot of Russian economic and social policy. Maybe a few middle eastern country's,there isn't really any great conservative country out there, all the great society's tend to be left of center, of course we at DU know why, but conservatives don't understand why monopoly's are bad or why taxes, education and social justice is good even though they benefit from it everyday.

We spent most of civilization trying to get away from economic dictatorships where rich men had a say in everything you did for profit. I don't get why republicans are always trying to go back to those monopoly days with no protection or regulation, when the world was a horrible place for 99.9% of the population, I guess they think a few hand guns will protect them from billionaires insatiable greed, the stupid burns red hot on the right.

The far right (National Front) is fairly strong in France and they hate immigration and love to campaign on "law-and-order" and promoting the death penalty, reducing taxes, regulation of corporations and shrinking government. They favor nationalism/protectionism over the EU/globalization It may take republicans a while to get the kind of political power that they have here, but it is something they could work with the far right to achieve.

If you consider Russia a "Western democracy", republicans might feel at home there. Plenty of inequality, homophobia, anti-immigrant sentiment, "family values" and a 'traditional role' for women, a reliance on fossil fuels, a view that western Europe is a bunch of liberal socialists, a rising military budget and an aggressive foreign policy. What's for a republican not to like? republicans would have to swallow a lot of pride to join up with Russia since they love to demonize them now. But they may soon say, "We have seen the enemy and he is us."

Anti-gay, biggest inequality in wealth of any major country, a nationalist president who likes to send troops into other countries, plenty of nuclear weapons ... it's Republican heaven.
