We've all heard of hung juries in criminal and civil cases but can a grand jury hang? And if it can, what happens then?

(2,860 posts)My wife served on a Federal Grand Jury for 18 months. She said they kicked back more cases than they indicted because the cops or the DA left too many questions unanswered. I've never served on an Grand Jury, but it seemed to me like it was a trial run for a case so the prosecutors could fill in the holes and get it ready for a trial jury.

8 or less 'guilty' votes means they issue a no bill.
I know they are not finding guilt or innocence, only if the case can proceed to trial, I was just trying use clear terms that would be understood.
