Good news is he's be taught well since he was 5 or 6. This season I've let him walk in front and carry his own gun this season, just to watch how his muzzle control is when walking and watch his reaction to those slips, trips, and falls that will happen in the woods. He's doing well for a 10yo and it makes me proud to hand down the great tradition of hunting to the next generation.

My daughter just finished up her hunters ed test a few weeks ago, she made a 96. I was pretty happy not a 100 but still pretty good. She doesn't have much interest in hunting (We've went 4 times this year for small game) but like my son she's been in training for 8 years now. I suppose it's up to me to cultivate the relationship with nature, and not let stereotypes take hold and convince her she shouldn't be in the field.

"You plan on shooting it", should be phrased, "You plan on contingently shooting it." That is, you may purposely shoot the weapon, given the right circumstances. So you will not point the gun at anything that you are not seriously considering shooting (under those circumstances). I know this is a fine point and may be considered pedantic, but it has always annoyed me that this legitimately peaceful use of the gun is often overlooked.

would add that today with the craziness that is going on maybe children should not be allowed to play with even a toy gun outside their own home.
