2. Why did he have to be a saint?

What he did was a crime, and he should have caught a charge.

I still don't see why that statement conflicts with HE SHOULD STILL BE ALIVE to defend himself.

I can't be the only one who doesn't buy into the mutual exclusivity of these two ideas?

The sarcasm label is absolutely required. First because we cannot hear your tone, and secondly because there have been posts on DU much, much stupider, and NOT sarcasm at all. You were wise to include it. Sorry, I'm so off the track here, but you pushed my buttons. Incidentally, I enjoyed your sarcastic remark!

7. Didn't they shoot Winona Ryder for that?

Oh, my bad. She only shoplifted thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Saks (even though she could well afford it). That's okay. A few bucks worth of cigarillos from the convenience store is definitely shoot-to-kill.

And in case anyone wants to protest with the "yeah, but he pushed the clerk" line, I'll remind you how we shot Alec Baldwin for pushing and punching all those photographers. Oh, my bad again.

Look, I don't want to dis these movie stars: they both clearly had issues that made them do these things. Gee, come to think about it, maybe other people have issues too that make them do things that are wrong. But there is nothing on this earth that will ever make me believe that anyone--rich or poor, black or... well, it's always black--deserves to be shot dead on sight for shoplifting or shoving.

Given the monstrous racial bias in its application.

I support the death penalty for making cigarillos, and death by slow torture for smoking them within a 1000 yard radius of me.
